Vallisneria Spiralis

The Vallisneria spiralis is approximately 30 - 55 centimeters long (depending on the pruning length) which gives a very nice effect. The long leaves also provide many hiding places for (young) shrimps, lobsters and fish. When the leaves become longer than the height of the aquarium, they will lie on the water surface. This refracts the light in a natural way and creates a very natural look.

The name of this plant is confusing: Vallisneria Spiralis suggests that this leaf is twisted, but that is not the case. If you still want a twisted leaf, you can opt for the Vallisneria Spiralis torta.

This aquarium plant grows relatively quickly and absorbs a lot of waste. The addition of a little plant food is therefore certainly appreciated. The plant also easily produces runners, making it easy to take cuttings and propagate.

Important: The Vallisneria can experience stress due to transport (from the supplier to us and from us to you). A consequence of stress in this aquarium plant is that it draws the nutrients from the leaves to the root and causes the leaves to die. This is 100% normal. As long as the root is healthy and properly planted in the aquarium, it will come back with new leaves on its own.
